BSG Chemie Leipzig fell to a 0-2 defeat against table-topping Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the Regionalliga Nordost, despite a performance that generated numerous scoring opportunities. The Saxons were unable to convert their dominance into goals as Erfurt efficiently utilized their limited chances to secure the win.
The home side began with aggressive intent, creating early danger within the first ten minutes. Malick Sanogos shot from two meters after a corner flew just wide of the post, followed by a long-range effort from Luis Jakobi that required a full-stretch save from Erfurt goalkeeper Lorenz Otto.
Tensions rose in the penalty area around the 18th minute when an Erfurt corner was repeatedly blocked by Leipzig defenders. The visitors had significant luck avoiding an early goal; Dustin Forkel broke through on the left following a defensive error but his finish went narrowly past Marcel Bergmann.
The match remained balanced, with Leipzig testing the leaders. Just before halftime, Willi Reincke found himself unmarked in front of Otto and shot centrally, a chance that should have given Erfurt the lead.
After the break, Erfurt pressed heavily, forcing Leipzig into their own half. The home side weathered this phase and regained control, though Erfurt’s physical play disrupted Leipzig’s rhythm with frequent fouls. BSG coach sought to change the dynamic by introducing new signing Luka Klanac for the offensive line.
Leipzig controlled much of the subsequent play but conceded in the 75th minute. After clearing a left-side attack, Romarjo Hajrulla managed to pass into the center where Benjika Caciel turned and scored. The goal shifted the momentum; Erfurt responded with composure, and Robbie Felßberg added a second goal in the 86th minute.
The victory reinforces Rot-Weiß Erfurt’s position at the top of the table. As Regionalliga Nordost champions, Erfurt is set for direct promotion to the 3. Liga this season.
