Matthew Wright Cause of Death Revealed as Cardiopulmonary Arrest
A death certificate confirms that Matthew Wright, a producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, died of cardiopulmonary arrest on October 30 in Los Angeles. Hypertension was listed as the underlying cause, with obstructive sleep apnea and Class II obesity identified as contributing conditions.
A death certificate obtained by PEOPLE reveals that Matthew Wright, a producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, died from cardiopulmonary arrest on October 30 in Los Angeles. Hypertension was listed as the underlying cause of death, while obstructive sleep apnea and Class II obesity were identified as contributing conditions.
Wright passed away "suddenly but peacefully in his sleep," according to a GoFundMe page established by his family. The campaign notes that the loss is an "unfathomable tragedy" and highlights the financial strain on Wright and his husband, Justin, who were both laid off over the summer.
Funds raised through the GoFundMe will cover funeral expenses and a memorial service in Los Angeles, as well as the costs of transporting Wright's body back to New York. Colleagues from the show have responded with donations and tributes. Ellen DeGeneres donated $5,000 and posted an emotional tribute to Wright on social media.
Andy Lassner, executive producer of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, also contributed to the fund. Lassner noted that he had visited the set of The Jennifer Hudson Show just hours before learning of Wright's death.
