Katy Perry Tells Fans Ex-Husband Russell Brand 'Should Be in Jail' During UK Concert
Katy Perry has recalled a past concert moment where she told fans that her ex-husband Russell Brand 'should be in jail,' a statement that has taken on renewed significance following his recent criminal convictions. The singer made the remark during a question-and-answer session at the Blenheim Palace Festival last July, before Brand was found guilty of rape and sexual assault.
Katy Perry has recalled a striking moment from a UK concert where she told fans that her ex-husband, Russell Brand, "should be in jail." The remark, made during a question-and-answer session at the Blenheim Palace Festival in Oxfordshire last July, has taken on a darker tone following Brand’s recent criminal convictions.
During the event, a fan asked Perry to act out her reaction to seeing her ex-husband. She responded immediately: "I hope my ex isn't here. He should be in jail."
The comment resurfaced in public discourse after Brand was found guilty last week at Southwark Crown Court of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The verdict marks the conclusion of a high-profile trial that drew significant media attention.
Perry, 42, has rarely spoken publicly about her 14-month marriage to Brand, which ended in divorce proceedings filed by him on December 30, 2011. Brand famously ended the relationship via text message moments before Perry was scheduled to go on stage for a performance. She later stated that Brand had been jealous of her rising success.
The couple married in October 2010 during a Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India. The six-day celebration included guests such as Sean Combs, Jonathan Ross, and David Walliams.
Following her divorce from Brand, Perry entered a long-term relationship with actor Orlando Bloom. They share a daughter, Daisy Dove. Perry and Bloom split in June 2025 after a decade together.
Perry’s personal life has also been in the spotlight regarding her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The couple began dating the month after her split from Bloom, having met while she was on tour. Trudeau separated from his wife, Sophie Gregoire, in 2023. Photographs of Perry and Trudeau kissing on a yacht surfaced in October 2025.
Perry has described Trudeau as "the love of my life" in interviews promoting her concert film, "Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris." She continues to tour internationally, with recent performances drawing attention to both her music and her personal history.
